Helen Rice practices primarily in the areas of estate planning, probate, guardianship, elder law, real estate, and business law. Helen became an attorney because she genuinely enjoys helping
people to solve and avoid problems. She takes a personal interest in the unique needs of each client,
getting to know people and situations in depth in order to make the best possible recommendations
before proceeding. Helen prepares wills, trusts, advance directives for health care, family limited
partnerships, powers of attorney, operating agreements, and related documents for individuals,
families, and small businesses in order to protect their assets, minimize tax liability, and make sure
that their wishes - however simple or complex - are fulfilled no matter what circumstances may arise
in their lives. Helen creates individually tailored trusts for all types of unique needs, including
providing lifetime benefits for special needs children, caring for pets, assuring a college education
for children from a prior marriage, or protecting settlement proceeds from creditors. She appears
in court in a wide variety of guardianship matters to assist families with aging parents, special needs
children who have reached the age of majority, or mentally ill adult relatives in obtaining the proper
authority to manage their care and assets. Helen also works with grandparents and other relatives
who have assumed the care of minor children in becoming legal guardians and, in appropriate cases,
adoptive parents. Helen is certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs as an accredited attorney
for the preparation, presentation and prosecution of claims for Veterans' benefits. She can also assist
in real estate and business matters ranging from drafting of contracts, leases and deeds to
representation of sellers and buyers in purchase and sale transactions and disputes. She creates
LLCs, partnerships, and other types of small businesses and works with their owners to ensure that
the terms of their business relationships are clearly and thoroughly defined according to their
intentions, and she assists individuals wishing to sell their businesses.
Prior to joining the firm, Helen served as general counsel to a privately held group of financial services companies with multiple domestic and international offices, and she also served as a Senior Attorney for the U.S. Small Business Administration for over seven years .. Helen's experience creating, managing and dissolving all types of business entities in a wide variety of jurisdictions, coupled with her ability to tailor legal solutions to meet the specific needs of each individual client, gives her a thorough understanding of the challenges faced by both the individuals and the business owners she represents. Helen has given numerous presentations on various topics involving real estate law and estate planning at seminars for lawyers, real estate agents, and other professional groups, and she has written many related articles. In addition, Helen has written and presented proposed laws for passage in Georgia, and she authored a set of financial services regulations that were adopted by the Prime Minister of Belize in 2008 relating to international commerce.
Helen graduated from Furman University in 1991 and Lewis & Clark Northwestern School of Law in 1994. She is admitted to practice law in Georgia and Tennessee" Helen is a member of the Atlanta and Tennessee Bar Associations, and she currently serves as the co-chair of the North Fulton Neighborhood Group for the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. Helen serves on the board of directors of the American Business Women's Association as Vice President for Marketing and Public Relations. She does frequent volunteer work for the PTA for the elementary school her two sons attend, and she also volunteers her time assisting several charitable organizations, including the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, North Fulton Community Charities, the Drake House, the Ronald McDonald House, and Project Open Hand.
